I (was/am) a participant in the Netflix Prize competition. My skills as a programmer enabled me to get a very early lead in the competition, but my weaker skills at statistical analysis left me unable to preserve that lead. The contest is presently dominated by professionals, so I do not expect to return to the leaderboard.
| Date | Score | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 10/4/2006 12:42 AM UTC | 0.9895 | Compared movies' average rating versus customers' average rating. This was the 5th overall Netflix submission and held 1st place for 26 hours, giving me 15 minutes of fame and thousands of website hits. |
| 10/11/2006 12:07 PM UTC | 1.0062 | First attempt at collaborative filtering. Didn't sample enough data to be accurate. |
| 10/19/2006 4:30 PM UTC | 0.9791 | Partial results from second collaborative filtering attempt, used my first algorithm to fill in the gaps. |
| 10/28/2006 2:53 PM UTC | 0.9658 | Complete results from second collaborative filtering attempt. |
None of my efforts have been able to improve or replace the algorithm that got me my most recent score. So, I've placed the contest on the shelf for now as I tackle other projects :)
